3145 - Nature Recovery Lead Adviser - West Midlands
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with effective terrestrial ecological knowledge and experience of working collaboratively with partners and colleagues. Our Nature Recovery Lead Advisers are uniquely placed, utilising their expert knowledge and engagement skills, to work at a range of scales from individual land managers to large partnerships. This, combined with the range of levers available to staff, underpins Natural England’s unique role in delivering nature recovery.
Nature Recovery Lead Advisers increasingly play a crucial role in convening and supporting strategic partnerships at a landscape scale to deliver nature recovery. These are focused on the priority landscapes in the Team’s area that will deliver significant nature recovery and natural capital gains.
Key tasks
- Responsible for delivering a range of nature enhancement and recovery advice, including farmland conservation and protected sites, at a scale and in a way that joins up our delivery to achieve nature recovery and build resilient landscapes.
- Work collaboratively with our farmland and protected sites casework Team, land-use planning Team, National Nature Reserves Team, and Catchment Sensitive Farming officers. This includes provision of technical nature recovery advice to support land-use planning and protected sites casework.
- Engaging with land managers and stakeholders, increasingly on a one2many basis, to create and implement shared plans at a landscape scale to achieve healthy functioning nature recovery networks. This could include securing measures to improve the condition of protected sites or providing habitat/species management advice to land managers.
- Potentially lead on key partner relationships, representing all of NE not just one work area, to secure nature recovery in our priority landscapes. Subsequently cascading key points to relevant NE colleagues.
- Seek opportunities to provide support and guidance to colleagues to help develop their technical knowledge and encourage/support all staff to work in a collaborative multi-disciplinary way to deliver greater environmental outcomes.
An opportunity to play an integral part in delivering nature recovery in the West Midlands. Working flexibly across the Team area to provide the skilled and passionate nature management advice and expertise to help deliver Natural England’s ambition for the 25 Year Environment Plan.
Location: Worcester or Telford (although regular travel to remote areas across the Team area will be necessary)

• Good understanding of the ecology and management principles for key lowland habitats/species, including woodland, grassland, peatland and heathland (essential). A good understanding of bird ecology, meta-populations and their use of functionally linked land (desirable).
• Ability to influence land managers & external partners to achieve positive management of the natural environment at a landscape scale (essential)
• Knowledge and experience of environmental legislation including policies and procedures relating to Sites of Special Scientific Interest and European sites (essential)
• Knowledge and experience of agri-environment schemes, their objectives and management (essential).
• Driving licence essential due to travel to remote site visits (essential).
• Use clear and appropriate language, communication styles and techniques that engage your audience
