Natural England are seeking organised and committed individuals who can work as part of our National Nature Reserve’s (NNR) team in Lincolnshire. The Reserve Manager role is a broad equivalent to roles such as Reserve Warden in RSPB, or a Reserve Officer in the Wildlife Trusts.

We’re looking for two Reserve Managers to join our team, contributing to the day-to-day management of our Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe National Nature Reserve which includes the newly acquired land at Elm House Farm.

Lincolnshire is a very scenic and tranquil part of the country with quiet sandy beaches, amazing sun rises, all backed up by the rolling hills of The Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; charming villages, bustling cities like Louth, Horncastle and Market Rasen.

The dunes, which were first created by storms in the 13th century were once a bombing range, but are now home to a wealth of wildflowers, butterflies and rare natterjack toads. Much of the dunes are covered in scrub, particularly of sea buckthorn, which provides nesting and feeding sites for a variety of both breeding and wintering birds. The freshwater marsh behind the dunes has a good display of orchids, but the most stunning sight is the flowering of the sea lavender in late summer on the saltmarsh. In contrast Elm Farm House is a re-wetted arable farm land managed by grazing and cutting for ground nesting and overwintering birds.  There are lots of potential improvements to increase the floristic diversity and to maximise the bird numbers.
