5819 - Data Team Lead Adviser
- Perform GIS tasks using ESRI’s ArcGIS and Python
- Design and implement automated data and mapping processes to improve internal ways of working and customer experience
- Collate and analyse raw data on operations delivery performance, risk and create ministerial reports
- Provide support and work closely with the Senior Adviser in systems and management information
- Standardise and document processes for key tasks, produce guidance and training materials
- Mentor and train team members on GIS work and data interpretation
- Collaborate with stakeholders and relevant team members
- Maintain data quality and implement Natural England data standards into the teams GIS and data work. Ensure data storage is in line Natural England policy
- Raise team profile and engage with wider Natural England
Natural England’s Complex Case Unit (CCU) Specialist Licensing team are responsible for the review and implementation of licensing of badger vaccination and population control for the purposes of preventing the spread of bovine tuberculosis (bTB). The GIS and Data Lead Adviser leads on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and data analysis work, developing systems and delivering information for licensing and operations.
The role will require national travel to locations to attend team meetings and training. This will sometimes require overnight stays.
Flexible working patterns will generally be accommodated but please note that the suggested minimum working hours are 30 hours a week due to the nature of the role and workload.
The post will also require additional security screening. The vetting process will seek to understand your loyalty, honesty and reliability, and identifying any vulnerabilities that could lead you to being bribed or blackmailed.

• A degree involving ArcGIS/Geography/Statistics/Data Analysis/ at level 2:2 or higher, or evidence of equivalent relevant experience
• Knowledge and experience of data management, collation and analysis
• Knowledge of scripting language such as Python or R
• Excellent written, IT and communication skills and workload management
• Be efficient in creating, presenting and communicating data and evidence in ways that meet the audience’s needs
Desirable
• Experience of applying legislation and/or policy to your work
• Experience of working with key stakeholders, NGOs and other key partners
• Make and explain objective decisions which combine your professional judgement and evidence (practitioner)
• Build relationships and effective networks both externally and internally to bring in fresh perspectives, approaches and evidence to raise the profile of both your individual specialist work and that of Natural England (practitioner)
• Handle data responsibly, understand your role in good governance, and comply with delegations, policies and procedures (practitioner)
